Vija began working in the mental health field in 2016 as a field staff for a wilderness therapy program for teenage boys. She found that wilderness therapy provided a profound environment for supporting vulnerability, challenge, and openness within the teenage boys with whom she worked. Over the course of two years, Vija gained invaluable experience working directly with these teenage boys for eight days at a time, teaching them skills based in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. As a lead staff Vija also gained experience managing a staff team in the Utah desert. Before accepting the position of Admissions Associate at Bridge House Vija spent six months working as a Psychiatric Technician at Bridge House, which has provided her first-hand experience of the care and compassion with which staff treat each resident. Her knowledge of the program allows her to speak clearly with prospective families and residents about what they might experience when joining the community at Bridge House.
Vija enjoys spending time outside in the diverse terrain Utah offers, spending weekends skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, and camping. Vija also enjoys challenging herself by learning new hobbies, from slacklining and gardening to pottery and cooking.
